I heart Marshall & Earl

Mr Brooks, originally uploaded by macslost.

What the HELL? As far as I was concerned, Kevin Costner had only done 2 good movies since Waterworld (I liked it and won't apologize for it). Thirteen Days and Open Range were both fairly fantastic films. Beyond that, I've avoided most of the dreck he's put out in order to keep my eyes, my soul and my sanity. In fact, when I saw the poster for Mr. Books, I cringed. Kevin Costner, William Hurt, Demi Moore and Dane Cook? Ugh. Not that I had anything against William Hurt. Plus, what the hell kind of movie was it with a poster like that? And it's called "Mr. Brooks". Lame, right?

And then Allistair said that he liked it (why he saw it in the first place, I couldn't say, but maybe he actually watched a trailer or read about it, which I did NOT). And if Mikey Likes It, then you best look into it.

Needless to say, it was pretty much 2 hours of homicidal glee. I was thoroughly entertained and what you DON'T get from the trailer (and don't go reading anything about the movie, just watch the trailer if you need more) is the relationship between Costner and Hurt. It's FANTASTIC. Pretty much every conversation they have is awesome.

Anyway, this movie was a big surprise and I recommend checking it out.
